Stay planning
Three Days in the Štiavnica Mountains
Hiking up Sitno, swimming in Počúvadlo lake, and exploring mining tunnels—three days at a pace perfect for anyone who loves the mountains without the rush for distance.
All times in the programme are indicative recommendations. Check opening hours, admission and connections in the official sources before visiting.
Three days for those who truly want to experience the Štiavnica Mountains—both on foot and from the heights.
Day 1 — arrival and warm-up
Morning/afternoon depending on your arrival: a walk through the manor park and the historic center of Banská Štiavnica (2–3 hours, recommended).
Evening
Early sleep — tomorrow morning, you have the climb up Sitno ahead of you.
Day 2 — Sitno and Počúvadlo
Morning — hike up Sitno
Drive to Počúvadlo lake (the starting point of the trail, parking by the lake). Hike up to Sitno (1,009 m a.s.l.) from the lake along the green and blue marked trails and return by the same route: the entire loop is approximately 5 km with an elevation gain of 324 m. The pure walking time is about 1:45 h (source: hiking.dennikn.sk). Including breaks at the summit, we recommend planning for 2.5–3 hours.

Additional activities
Cycling routes in the area are described in our overview of Štiavnica Mountains cycling trails.
What we recommend arranging in advance
- •Sturdy hiking boots for the terrain
- •In summer, swimwear and a towel for the lake
- •Warmer clothing for the mining tunnel (it is cooler underground)
- •Check the opening hours of the Mining Museum at muzeumbs.sk
Backup plan for bad weather
In case of bad weather, postpone the Sitno hike to another day and swap it for the Open-air Mining Museum or museums in the city — more in the itinerary What to do when it rains. We do not recommend climbing Sitno after rain — the rocks can be slippery.
