Trinity Square and the Plague Column
The main square of Banská Štiavnica featuring the Holy Trinity plague column—the heart of this UNESCO World Heritage town and a must-see stop on your city tour.
Holy Trinity Square forms the core of the historic town reserve, which is proudly listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its landmark is the plague column with the Holy Trinity statue group, erected between 1710 and 1711 as a gesture of gratitude for the end of a plague epidemic. The square also serves as the departure and arrival point for the charming 'Štiavnická Anča' tourist train. It is a lovely, brief stop on your city loop rather than a full-day excursion; it fits naturally into a stroll through the historic center, on your way toward the Calvary or Horná Růžová Street.
Why it is worth a visit
