History and trees
The garden was established between 1838 and 1839 at the initiative of forestry professor Rudolf Feistmantl as a study area for the Mining and Forestry Academy, which was founded in 1762 by Maria Theresa. Today, the area contains 220 species of both native and exotic trees. Among the most prominent specimens are the giant sequoias and various types of exotic cedars.
