History since 1266
The first written mention of the village dates back to 1266. Its name originates from the original church dedicated to Saint Anthony the Great. Following the completion of the manor house in 1744, Svätý Anton became the administrative center of the Koháry estates and developed as a manorial town. The Koháry family played the most significant role in its economic, spiritual, and cultural development, and from 1826 onwards, the village belonged to the Coburg family.
English Park
Directly next to the manor house lies a park complex that was originally created as a Baroque garden in the 18th century and later transformed into an English landscape park in the 19th century. It consists of hectares of greenery and woodland, featuring ponds, a waterfall, cascades, springs, wooden bridges, an artificial cave, and a chapel dedicated to Saint Hubert. This area offers a perfect space for walks in a natural setting.
Church and Chapels
The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Anthony the Abbot, dating from 1755, is a single-nave building in the Baroque-Classicist style. The interior impresses with its historic furnishings, a statue of the Madonna, and a panel painting of the Nativity. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, built between 1755 and 1758, is a place of peace and quiet. The manor house also includes the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which dates back to 1722.
